“Tony”
“Tony” is an original design that pays homage to the 1960’s era, commonly referred to mid century modern. The Blackbutt used on the piece was obtained from a local house demolition which was estimated to be a 90 year old home.
Lots of small details have been constructed into this piece. Firstly the whole case has been constructed using solid wood, the carcass is 28mm thick, the back panel and drawer bottoms slide in a groove to allow for expansion and contraction. We utilised traditional dovetail joinery on all drawer boxes and stained the sides in a black japan stain to add contrast to the piece. The drawer fronts have been hand carved to add extra visual interest and create a truly bespoke piece of furniture.
We created the legs by drawing the design on a sheet of mdf, cutting the design out then shaping each curve with hand planes and spoke shaves, The design is then transferred onto timber and cut with a router using the mdf as a template, a lot of work to perfect!
This piece can be custom made using any timber to any size required. We designed this piece to be a TV unit, the credenza pictured measures 1.6m long, 45cm wide, 70cm high. If you’re looking for a similar item, or something different get in touch.
